Here's a mix done by a good friend of mine, DJ Surgio. A gentleman and a scholar, I believe he is a pioneer in the electro scene in Manila. The mix was made back in June so the songs might be a bit old, but its still real good.
New Orleans, the birth place of jazz. Believe it or not, this group is from there. When you hear this track of theirs, you won't be surprised if their influences trace back to some sort of funk. They've got this tone that is liken to 50s or 60s music.
I chanced up upon this song on my iTunes this morning. If you didn't know, Yeasayer is known for their experimental music. Then again, who isn't trying to be experimental these days? Sunrise has got that head-bobbing beat to it. It's so good that you'll end up straining your neck.

So I went to an "unofficial" CMJ party last night in Brooklyn. They featured some Fool's Gold DJs (only enjoyed LA Riots really) and some bands! Young Love and Tiger City went on. Class Actress really caught my attention though mainly because of their vocalist, Elizabeth Harper, the girl above. Her stage presence was amazing! She was seducing the whole room. It was like

A British music producer, Bibio studied Sonic Arts at Middlesex University in London, which explains his mastery of electronically produced music. His method of composing and putting together is very experimental. It's got a bit of everything actually, even some soul to it.
Now this lady sporting the fro is Minnie Riperton. Clearly, you can tell she was from the 70's era. Tiedye, afro, awkward and painful-to-the-eyes eye shadow is a clear giveaway.She was best known for her more than 5 vocal octaves. Not that this information is useful to you at guys at all. Sadly, she was taken away from the world by cancer. This track is awesome, and I think that instead of her turning over in her grave because of some bastardizing remix, she's actually dancing to it. Yes, a dead person getting jiggy with it in their grave. I don't mean to sound offensive! Sorry God!
This song is still at the top of my list. Haven't gotten sick of it after 3 months of listening to it.Take note that this is a fan-made video. It's amazing how it jives so well with the beat of the song.
For those who aren't familiar with Washed Out, he is Ernest Greene. A guy from Georgia who creates bedroom synthpop that sounds dreamy.
There is something about the filtered vocals that makes it a perfect song for a late night drive home.

This was my summer song when I was back in Manila for break.
How I wish I was back in Manila or L.A. were it would be perfect to dress comfortably (without layering required) and kick back and listen to these tunes outdoors. The two tracks brought to us by Hotel Costes are by far my favorites from their selections. The third one is by Thievery Corporation from their album The Richest Man In Babylon. The acoustics with this one song really tickle your ear in a good way. The rest of the album is amazing as well.
This song is too good to leave out. It's been out for a long time now, but I just wanted to remind everyone again about it. This remix is too good.

This is how they ended up with the band name, How I Became the Bomb: They were a group who enjoyed jamming together. They were set to play at this club. Before they went on stage, they forgot the most fundamental parts of being part of a band, coming up with a name for themselves. They quickly turn to a friend and ask for a suggestion and in an instant he said, How I Became the Bomb. Apparently, they had all watched Dr. Strangelove all together the night before. Nice.
This sounds like something you'd hear at a rave, but it made me remember Boracay 2004 when Cocomangas was still the in spot.
So according to Wikipedia, Florence + The Machine's sound is "generally referred to as soul-inspired indie". That sounds so indie. I know the term as lost its meaning in this mainstream world of ours. Then again, who doesn't like indie? Haha I kid. This group is good. The remixes add some siiick beats that make them even better.
Born and raised in Gothenburg, Sweden to a Japanese father and American mother. You would think that with a handful of accents to adapt to, she'd sound weird. On the contrary, her voice is amazing. It has this jazzy tone to it.
Scandinavian countries seem to produce a lot of good music. I personally would want to travel there because 1. I have never been to Europe and 2. I would like to see what inspires many of the Scandinavian bands I've been listening to.
