The Brooklyn-based duo recently came out with a new track from their up-and-coming album Mixed Emotions that is set to be released on March 20th. Hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday! The weather situation here in the East Coast only means we're on the brink of switching seasons. I on the other hand would like to combat the feelings brought about by the dreary clouds and rain and maybe put a little "umph" into your Sunday. I thought an upbeat tune and a stunning photo of Giselle is just what you need.

Games is a "synth collaboration" comprised of Daniel Lopatin (Ohneohtrix Point Never) and Joel Ford (Tigercity). This track is an awesome example of how songs should be sampled and looped/chopped.

I just watched The Mechanic starring Jason Statham yesterday with a few friends. As like other espionage movies, I enjoyed it. I was never really a believer in Statham's ability as an action star but just like his role in Snatch, this one was an A in the ass-kicking division. Right up there with Liam in Taken.

Anyway, there was one scene where a burial is taking place and as Statham is walking away, this song kicks in. I was immediately taken by it and looked it up online. Nuru Kane is a Senegalese singer/songwriter. This track is taken off his debut album, Sigil, that was released back in 2006.

I'm back folks! After a month of silence, I have the time to to post again. My family came to visit for a month and it was quite a hectic trip. 5 different states and touring them around NYC was tiring but fun! L.A.'s Foster The People were one of the much anticipated bands at Coachella this year. Though they arrived 20 minutes late on stage, they were still able to appease the crowd and show them exactly why they are likened to acts such as Passion Pit and MGMT. New York's electronic tandem, The Knocks, touches up on the track Pumped Up Kicks and gives it an East Coast twist that's enough to send you into an indie-induced epileptic shocker. In other words, it's a fun remix.

I've been hearing a lot about Nicolas Jaar the past few months but never had the time to actually check him out. This track was recently brought to my attention by a good friend and fellow music fiend, Bettina E. She said it was her favorite track of his, and seeing that I have never doubted her taste in music, I went right ahead and purchased it when I got home. This track is breathing life back into my appreciation for house music. Jaar is a 21-year-old New Yorker who is really blowing the roof off with his minimalist tunes. He's signed with Wolf + Lamb, a label is getting some good acts on board. Oh yeah, and he's a comparative literature major at Brown University. Ladies, keep those pants on!

I recently watched Blue Valentine and this song was featured in the movie. I instantly developed a liking to it since I appreciate the oldies. Not much is known about Penny & The Quarters. A summer song indeed. Dallas-grown and Yale undergraduate student Conner Youngblood knows where its at. The track is very experimental. Mixing acoustics with electronica could be quite tricky, yet Conner seems to have it down to a science. He sings of a season that is the most anticipated every year. This track could not come at a more appropriate time. New York is supposed to hit 70 degrees this Friday, and I just cant wait to drown myself in this song while enjoying the beautiful weather outdoors.

Don't be mislead by their band name, they aren't based in or around the university, nor did any of them attend it. Jesse, Matt and Ben used to live on Princeton Street in Santa Monica, California.

Hearing this for the first time will leave you thinking you were listening to a Kisses track. It's pure dream pop, and I loved every second of it.

I've always been a fan and have always included one RAC remix in my monthly playlists (which will be making a come back this weekend) without question. Anyway, his latest releases on the RAC Volume 2 are nothing but stellar. If I were to do what the guy is doing in the photo, I'd probably use this Washed Out remix while I glide through this scenery. But the chances of that happening are very slim because I'm afraid of heights.

If there is one thing I wish I had here in New York, it would be a car. Most of you may think that it is an odd request, some may even call it crazy. A few would argue that the NYC subway is efficient enough, the lack of driving etiquette amongst drivers, the traffic and the insane cost of parking your car in the city. Yet despite all this, I could afford one, I would have a car. You see back in the motherland, I could just get in my car and drive wherever I wanted to. That sense of control was a great feeling. It was also the case that I had certain tracks/playlists that were perfectly suited for "cruisin" at whatever speed. It always made the ride more enjoyable no matter what mood I was in. This track in particular is perfect for a long stretch with no traffic whatsoever. A nightdrive would be more ideal but anytime of the day would probably do.

Believe it or not, Jensen Sportag is a Nu-Disco duo out of Nashville, Tennessee. Yup, "Music City" and the home of country music. I have been counting down the days until the release of their latest EP, Pure Wet. Alas, the wait is finally over. Now usually I would delve in and comment on a certain aspects of a song. But for this track, I feel no need to. If I were to describe the song in one adjective, it would be riveting. It's perfect. They are geniuses. You need not know anything else.

I have been meaning to post this track for some time now. We all fell in love with L.A. duo, Kisses, when they first came out. People Can Do The Most Amazing Things, Bermuda and Kisses all garnered the respect of pretty much the whole blogosphere. With everybody taking a stab at remixing their tracks, their popularity just got bigger by the minute. They have a new single coming out on February 15, called Midnight Lover. Swedish production duo, Ultracity, stretches the song from 3:34 to a whopping 9:32 without losing the aesthetics of the track. They accentuate the guitar riffs throughout the song and it just sets your mind a flight.

For those of you who don't frequent this blog often, you should know that I love oldies (music that is). Around summer of last year, I posted an amazing song by Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. After hearing them for the first time, I immediately got hooked on Daptone Records. Same goes with Charles Bradley. There is a strong resemblance to James Brown in his voice, it's crazy. The great thing about Daptone is that all the artists under their belt possess such great control in sounding retro. Definitely worth a listen!

Villa is a Belgium-based duo comprising of Thang & François. These guys have popped up on my radar a few times already but I never gave their tracks the time of day, until I laid ears on this beauty. Now Adele's single has been remixed by quite a few out there. Before this one came along, there was the Jamie XX one that was on loop on my iPod. Both are really excellent productions. I guess it all depends on your preference of tempo or musical aesthetics. I would on the other hand recommend the Villa remix just because it's the weekend.

This is the second single released from Yelle's upcoming sophomore album. I've always enjoyed Yelle's productions. Her tracks have so much spunk and groove to it. I don't speak French but I think that isn't even a requirement to bust a groove to her music.

I wasn't so much of a fan of this Cut Copy track when it came out late November. Their guitarist Tim Hoey described the song as "certainly one of the more pop moments on the album." A week or two ago, a few remixes surfaced and I am finally starting to appreciate the pop-ness of the song. I'm putting up two of them here. Aussie bigshots Flight Facilities take a stab at the track and give it a great beach-set vibe. The second one is by New York's very own Midnight Magic. Disco-laden with some really infectious trumpets.

Señor Coconut is just one of the many aliases of Uwe Schmidt. He was born in Germany and that is where he established his roots as a DJ and producer. It's safe to say that he got sick of European electronic dance music. Because of that, he decided to move to Santiago, Chile to explore Latin music. It was there that he adopted his moniker, Señor Coconut. While living in Chile, he composed an adaptation of Kraftwerk's (Germany) classics infused with Latin instruments and rhythm.

This two tracks are off his album, Around the World with Señor Coconut. The album kicks off with a bang using this Daft Punk tune as the intro song. Genius execution with this composition! The second one is a Cha Cha Chá version of the British band, The Eurythmics.

Been really busy with school the past two weeks so I apologize for the lack of posts. Prepping for D-Day on December 11 and the last push of Senior year has been truly exhausting. I got wind of this track last year around November. At that time, I couldn't find the MP3, so I posted the YouTube video containing the track (it was eventually taken down sometime in December). Around January, I searched the internet far and wide and finally got hold of the file. Thinking ahead before posting it, I emailed the manager of James. He told me that it wasn't released yet and if I could keep the file to myself for the time being. After 10 long months, I can finally put it up. This is easily one of the best tracks of this year, in my opinion. James Blake transforms Feist's song into something so profound. Yup, you read that right. Profound. This guy has got serious skill.

I'd like to take a few minutes of my precious study period to introduce you to Body Language. This Brooklyn-based group is made up of Angelica Bess, Ian Chang, Grant Wheeler and Matthew Young. Boy oh boy did I enjoy their EP (Download it for FREE off their BandCamp page). I couldn't get more details on them but their track, You Can, is more than enough reason to keep on listening. Simple stuff really. It comprises of a variety of mesmerizing synths, a steady bass line and some sexy vocals that accentuate the importance of body language.

To further celebrate the blog's birthday, I'd like to post this awesome track out of Melbourne, Australia. Strange Talk is Stephen Docker, Gerard Sidhu, Travis Constable and Gillan Gregory. This gem of a tune they've created is what would happen if Phoenix and the Klaxons had a baby. The Thomas Mars vocals and the Klaxons synths/beats make that claim undeniable. Their debut EP, which is being prepared under the supervision of UK producer Eliot James (Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club), is set to be released early next year. So in the meantime, bask in this summer-esque anthem. It's already Fall on this side of the world but it won't stop me from rocking out (really) to this track like work is on hiatus.

I'd also like to note that this track is part of Kitsuné Maison's 10th compilation, "The Fireworks Issue." It contains 25 headbangin' tracks and will be released online on November 15.

The people over at Tenga Music sent over this track and it immediately caught my attention. Great stuff out of Swindon, England.

Nightriders are the Boston dance duo; Matt Johnson and Joe Faria, where a chance meeting in 2004 at Boston’s legendary superclub, Avalon, (and many drinks later); formed a solid friendship. They list influences such as Quincy Jones, Brothers Johnson and the modern styles of Daft Punk, Groove Armada, Sebastian Tellier, Jamiroquai, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Air, and Royksopp.

This track is drenched in funk. The guitar licks and the synthesizers hypnotize your body unknowingly. I'll definitely make it a point to see these guys when I head up to Boston at the end of this month.

So one of Melbourne's biggest acts dropped their album last Friday. A year after Miami Horror's Sometimes garnered worldwide acclaim, they come out guns-a-blazin'. In a nutshell, the whole album is an astrological adventure of the mind. There is enough disco juice to get you to Mars and back. Soft Light, Echoplex and Summersun are a few of my favorites from the album. Although, these two really take the cake. Disco gems of the 21st century, I tell you.

English duo, Idjut Boys touches up on a track by Norway's "maestro of disco," Lindstrom and vocalist Christabelle. The beat that is almost identical to Michael Jackson's Wanna Be Startin ' Something will pump anyone's 'nads into hyper-drive.

This is on the late side but while I was in Hong Kong, this song kept playing in my head. This is definitely one of those songs girls will look good dancing to. There were a whole lot of lovely ladies in HK (mostly of mixed decent) that sent me home cross-eyed. How I wish they could have broke out in dance formation to this song.

I'm in the beautiful city of Hong Kong for a clan trip (26 people to be exact) and it has been amazing so far. The city, the food and the people are all great, except for the occasional douche-y Chinese vendors. I've stuffed myself with enough wanton noodles to feed a village. Not good.

On the other hand, I'm heading out in a bit to celebrate my 23rd birthday. Yup, I suspect this whole "faimly trip" was a secret birthday bash planned by my whole family. Then again, I could be wrong! I expect nothing less than crazy from the Hong Kong crowd. I was walking around just last night and it reminded me very much of New York. Another concrete jungle, just 1000 times more Asian. Streets full of crazy drunk hooligans, both of Asian and foreign decent flooded the streets. I'm guessing it being a Friday night and all, it'll be even worse (in a good way of course).

Good day ladies and gents! Apologies for my delinquency on my posting duties. I'm halfway through my vacation already. Will be doing regular posts by mid-August when I get back to the city. Please bear with me!

A friend of mine told me about The StepKids, a band that opened for Mates of State 2 weeks ago in NYC. She mentioned how trippy their performance was. Check out some of the videos taken at their gigs here. Their MySpace page lists Psychedelic / Soul as their sound and their music falls nothing short of it.

The first time I heard this track, I immediately knew it was a good one. Their other compositions contain some really crazy 70s psychedelic guitar riffs that make you feel like you just dropped some insane amount of acid. The first one though delves more into soulful vocals that make it such a perfect tune for summer. The mellow, country-like guitars in the background give you a hazy summer feeling. Something I wish I was experiencing right now. Too bad its typhoon season.

Mosquitos

Mosquitos is a New York-based band that has been around since 2003. They're distinctive sound is a mash up between bossa nova and indie pop. Haven't heard much from them in a long time and these tracks came up on my iTunes today. Their stuff have been staples songs for most of my summers mainly because they've got such breezy bossa melodies. If you didn't know already know, I easily get off with anything remotely close to bossa nova (completely irrelevant) The airy, laid-back vocals fit go hand in hand with the smooth jazz guitars and uplifting percussions.

I apologize for the lack of posts. I know I said that I'd try to update this as much as possible but circumstances have prevented me from doing so! There was a typhoon here in Manila that l resulted in a two-day blackout. Worst two days I've spent here during this vacation.

David Schacheri a.k.a RiCHARD.GEAR (quite possibly resembling the infatuation of Slow Motion Shoes with Brendan Frasier) is based out of Austin, Texas. He seems to be well established over there having both created and hosted parties that have blown the roof off the place

This track of his has got some heavy beats that only fist-pumping to it will give it justice. I can't really figure out what song was sampled on this but it sounds just as amazing. Another disco-house tune to tear up the dance floor to.

His career is about to take flight as he just released his debut EP, Starz. It includes four tracks and it's free here.

So this might be a bit late but I'll never pass out on posting something really good. As long as I feel like it would be worth your time, I'll let you know about it.

Nora / Non Tiq (she recently changed her MySpace name to this) is from Stockholm, Sweden. She was nominated as the Best Unsigned Artist of 2009 at the Swedish Manifestgalan. I'm not surprised that she got this award after hearing this song. I've come across a lot of Swedes that produce flawless music and this is just another one for the books.

Her vocals are effortlessly chill. The mellow guitars riffs and the subtle synth beats come together to produce a track that is perfect for all seasons. Whether you're under the heat or in doors because of the rain of snow, this will not fail to entertain you.

Nora - Quiet
